One
landmark you can’t fail to miss in this part of Yorkshire is cut into
the side of the hill, just beside the village of Kilburn. The famous White
Horse measures over 300 feet long by nearly 300 feet high, and on a clear
day, it’s claimed that the horse can be seen as far away as Leeds and
Harrogate. It was the work of John Hodgson, a local schoolmaster, who
with the help of his pupils completed it in the mid-18th century.
