No
visit to the Dales is complete without a trip to Askrigg in the heart
of Wensleydale, the unassuming little hamlet which fell into the worldwide
media spotlight when it became the location for filming All Creatures
Great and Small, the TV series inspired by the stories of Yorkshire vet
James Herriott. Skeldale House can be seen opposite the thirteenth century
church.
Askrigg was also noted for hand knitting and clock making and the eagle-eyed
among us may find the ancient bull-baiting ring which is still set in
the village square next to the market cross and stone pump.
